This image is called Emergence. It’s part of my Green Girl images done in collaboration with poet Mary Jo Amani for her book Green Girl Weaving. It goes with the following poem:
Nascent
Beneath the brown-tinged poplar leaves,
I wade into the River Gihon,
into the clear waters rushing over the rocks.
Green girl steps beside me.
She whispers to me, Be still,
sends shadows close, whispers, Be still.
I lay down,
let the water carry away
the sins I’ve contrived.
I remember the thoughts,
the recriminations, the nays,
let them fall from me,
let them drift, like bubbles
down the Gihon.
I walk from the river of what was
into what is,
somewhere between paradise
and the unknown.
For me, the river was the character that stood out. It emerged as the agent of change through letting go and washing away. The card will come with the poem it is based on printed on the back, and will be blank inside waiting for your message.
