This image is called Tramete Tree! It’s part of my Green Girl images done in collaboration with poet Mary Jo Amani for her book Green Girl Weaving. It goes with the following poem:
The Tangy Woods
“I’m growing old,”
I say, staggering.
I’m making my way
to the ridge top behind my house;
light strains through a naked canopy
onto knotty trunks wedded
with creamy colored vulvas,
turkey-tailed Trametes, orange
crowded parchment, seas of lettuce-like lichen,
the last of burnished leaves frayed and curled on the path.
“I’ve lost what is essential—”
The rustle and crunch
of blushed red chars and tawny browns invade
those thoughts. Beside me,
green girl croons:
“Like a tree. Be.”
I pause, rooting, stretch my arms up
from the ridge I’ve descended,
crown prickly
with tangy halcyon
whorls of delight.
The card will come with the poem it is based on printed on the back, and will be blank inside waiting for your message.
