This image is called Tugging. It’s part of my Green Girl images done in collaboration with poet Mary Jo Amani for her book Green Girl Weaving. It goes with the following poem:
The Red Thread
Green girl sees me come from far away,
sees me turn the corner past the tangled woods
where a black crow perches on a grey fence post.
“You again!” I say.
“Yes.”
“Yesterday there was a red thread hanging from the crow’s beak.
Now the beak is empty?”
A white car drives past, quick, the sky so dark.
“The crow would have been waiting
whether you had passed or not,” says green girl.
“Really?” I say.
“Really.”
“And the red thread?” I ask
“You know,” says green girl.
“What?”
“The pain is the warp.
Weave.”
This is inspired by Green Girl commanding “Weave”. There is truth to that, we must weave grief throughout our lives of love. It was done in this project as Mary Jo and I contemplated publishing a black and white (and maybe red?) version of the book.
